In Hebrew culture, a name is not merely a label — it is a declaration of nature. God's names in Scripture reveal His character, and their gematria values add a mathematical dimension to that revelation.
YHWH (יהוה) — The Tetragrammaton
The most sacred name of God: Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey
- י (Yod) = 10
- ה (Hey) = 5
- ו (Vav) = 6
- ה (Hey) = 5
- Total: 26
The number 26 is 2 × 13. In Hebrew, the word for love (ahavah, אהבה) equals 13, and the word for one (echad, אחד) also equals 13. Therefore: YHWH (26) = Love (13) + One (13). God's most sacred name mathematically declares: "I am the One Love."
Elohim (אלהים) — God as Creator
- א = 1, ל = 30, ה = 5, י = 10, ם = 40
- Total: 86
The word for nature (ha-teva, הטבע) also equals 86. Elohim — the name used throughout Genesis 1 — has the same gematria as nature itself. The Creator's name and His creation share the same numeric signature. God is as close to nature as a name is to its bearer.
El Shaddai (אל שדי) — God Almighty
- אל = 31, שדי = 314
- Total: 345
Intriguingly, 314 — the value of Shaddai alone — echoes π (pi) = 3.14..., the mathematical constant that governs circles and cycles. El Shaddai — the God of sufficiency and nurture — carries in His name the number that governs the cycles of all creation.
Adonai (אדני) — Lord, Master
- א = 1, ד = 4, נ = 50, י = 10
- Total: 65
When combined: YHWH (26) + Adonai (65) = 91. And 91 = 7 × 13 — spiritual perfection (7) times love/unity (13). The combined declaration of God as both covenant keeper (YHWH) and sovereign master (Adonai) equals: the perfect unity of love.
The Invitation
Every time you speak a name of God, you are releasing a numeric frequency into the atmosphere — a mathematical truth encoded into the very sounds of the Hebrew language. The names of God are not just words. They are equations. And every equation resolves to the same answer: He is.
